Our animals are pasture raised.
On a very basic level, pasture-based livestock farming means growing food as it was intended to be grown. Animals live and thrive in the environment they were created for; foraging in the forest or grazing and aerating the soil in the pasture.
They get to roam, eat the plants, insects, minerals, etc. They naturally digest and improve soil fertility by aeration and with their manure. In turn, the soil becomes a better environment for plant growth. The meat and egg products from pasture-raised animals have been shown to be significantly more nutritious for our bodies and brains and taste better than those raised in feedlot confinement operations. Pastured food is one way to feed your body for health.
We provide our pasture-raised chicken room to roam and move them throughout our pastures. They eat all they instinctively know is good for them – grass, other vegetation, bugs, worms, minerals, etc. We supplement our chickens with non-GMO poultry feed. We do not give our chickens medications, hormones or antibiotics.
The pigs forage in the forest and aerate the soil on pasture as they eat worms, grubs, roots, insects, and plenty of minerals. We supplement their diet with locally sourced feed and, when available, scraps from our garden and kitchen. We do not give our pigs hormones or antibiotics.
